How this tool changes learning in a way that isn't possible without technology
A Prezi will be made for each of the following reactions:
1) Single Replacement
2) Double Replacement
3) Combustion
4) Synthesis
5) Decomposition
6) Neutralization
Students will be assigned small groups to work with one another. The students will work together to become "experts" on their reaction. The groups will the present their reaction to the class. Helping students to make bigger real world connections by giving everyday common examples. This is a twist or beginning to a deeper Jigsaw activity.
Students will have to do the following:
- Define the reaction type
- Create a helpful story for students to remember the reaction
- 3 common examples
- Help on how to write the products for that said reaction
-Strong visuals to help aid in their presentation
Prezi
This allows students to be creative that normally don't get a chance. It will force them to be responsible for their own learning (ie Student Centered). It allows a variety of information to be displayed in different ways. It also allows students to work collaboratively from home. They don't have to be together to complete the assignment like an old PowerPoint. Also when completed any student in the class can have access to this Prezi! The Prezi is also much more innovative, interactive and diverse than making a poster or powerpoint.
Students for a end of the unit review will make flashcards in partners. The students can then quiz one another on the days following up to the test. Certain flashcards may be chosen as possible test questions.
Quizlet
Quizlet is awesome. It is the more up to date version of flashcards. Students will work collaboratively to design cards that quiz on pertinent information. Once designed the and saved the quizlet cards can be accessed on a laptop, tablet, or cell phone. I feel more students would be more apt to look at these flash cards at home or away from school than the old traditional paper pencil. Another benefit of doing flash cards like this is a time management. It takes less time for students to type out questions and make their flash cards then writing each individual one. So it allows for time for review of the information rather than the creating.
Partners from different groups can also share their quizlets very easily. So students could potentially get a more broad review. As a teacher I might even use a students quizlets cards to review for the class.
Students will create their own Wordle using the 6 main reaction types.

Students can take notes on their iPad or if they missed a day can easily access the information.
